Ken Caryl, commonly known as Ken Caryl Ranch, is an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP) located in and governed by Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. The CDP is a share of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of the Ken Caryl CDP was 32,438 at the United States Census 2010. The Ken Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District and the Ken Caryl Ranch Water District meet the expense of services. The Littleton publicize office (Zip code 80127) serves the area.

Ken Caryl’s archives begins subsequently Denver Major Robert B. Bradford’s purchase of the property in 1859. He soon built the Bradford/Perley House, as competently as a toll road ($1.50 per wagon) to aid travelers upsetting west from Denver in 1859. The incorporation of the Bradford/Perley House Inn and the toll road heading towards the mining camps proved fairly lucrative for Bradford. The construction of a competing road up Turkey Creek Canyon in 1867 (known as Highway 285 in the futuristic day) that replaced Bradford’s more difficult route ultimately doomed his enterprise. After his death in 1876, his widow eventually relinquished the property in 1881. Owners came and went for a times of just about 20 years.

During the ranch’s heyday, a number of Famous Colorado natives frequented Ken Caryl, including the notorious Civil War butcher John Chivington. Another regular was Ute chief Colorow. Although Colorow and new Utes in the Place were removed after the Meeker Massacre of 1879, he did leave a legacy. Present daylight Colorow Elementary hypothetical was named for him, and a rock formation in the Place that was apparently one of his favorite lairs continues to be known as “Colorow’s Cave”.

In 1895, Ken Caryl was transformed into a stable enthusiastic farm in the same way as James Adam Perley purchased the house. Finding execution as a dairy farmer, he and his intimates lived there richly until they sold the property to John Shaffer in 1914. After renaming and giving the ranch its current broadcast after his sons Kent and Carroll, Shaffer soon built the Manor House and diversified into beef ranching. Shaffer, who was as well as the owner of the Rocky Mountain News at this time, would also purchase the Bradford/Perley House in 1926 to amass to his property. Although he ran a profitable ranch for several decades, he was crushed during the Great Depression and eventually forfeited the property to the banks.
