Underwood-Petersville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lauderdale County, Alabama United States. It is portion of the Florence – Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Statistical Area known as “The Shoals”. As of the 2010 census, the population of the CDP is 3,247.
Underwood-Petersville is located at 34°52′21″N 87°41′34″W / 34.87250°N 87.69278°W (34.872469, -87.692776).
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.9 square miles (15 km), all land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,137 people, 1,295 households, and 953 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 520.5 inhabitants per square mile (201.0/km2). There were 1,378 housing units at an average density of 228.6 per square mile (88.3/km). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.68% White, 4.11% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.10% from supplementary races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 0.54% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
