Clifton is an incorporated town located in southwestern Fairfax County, Virginia, United States, with a population of 282 at the mature of the 2010 census, up from 185 at the 2000 census.

Incorporated by the General Assembly on March 9, 1902, Clifton is one of unaided three towns in the county, the new two being the much more populous Vienna and Herndon. Clifton’s chronicles begins pre-colonially, when the area was used as hunting grounds by the local Dogue Native American tribe. A railroad siding was build up here during the Civil War, and the Place became titled as Devereux Station. A approachable neighborhood on the outskirts of the Clifton ZIP code has this name. Development of a village at the siding began in 1868 gone a railroad depot, named “Clifton Station”, was constructed.

Unlike most areas in Northern Virginia, the land roughly speaking Clifton is far-off less built taking place than simple areas, especially to its east and southwest. This was out of the cause problems that overdevelopment close Bull Run and the Occoquan River would be environmentally damaging to the Occoquan Reservoir. The Dogue lived in villages and towns along the Potomac River and easy to realize to Occoquan River. They carved bowls out of soapstone found in the area.
