According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total Place of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km), all of it land.

This Place of Texas had been lightly settled under Spanish and Mexican rule. It was primarily granted after annexation by the United States by migrants from the South, many of whom arrived back the American Civil War. In that period, farmers had expected cotton plantations. It was along with an area of pine forests.
