Burton is a city in Washington County, Texas, United States. The population was 359 at the 2000 census. Prior to the 2010 census, Burton untouched its status from a town to a city. The population was 300 at the 2010 census.

Burton was received in 1870 by John M. Burton; a original of Greensboro, Georgia. In June 1869 Burton sold estate to trustees of the Houston and Texas Central Railroad and subsequently sold to citizens. The start of the railroad after the Civil War benefited the community. The town conventional its first postmaster upon September 23, 1870. By 1910 its population was 600. The community was incorporated upon October 25, 1972.

Burton is located at 30°10′54″N 96°35′46″W / 30.18167°N 96.59611°W / 30.18167; -96.59611 (30.181668, –96.596178).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total Place of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km), all of it land.
