New Beaver is a borough in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,370 at the 2020 census. It is portion of the New Castle micropolitan area.
Big Beaver Township was expected as one of the thirteen townships in Lawrence County. Initially, Big Beaver Township included what is now the borough of Wampum. Wampum became a separate borough on February 19, 1876, the thesame year that the Wampum Cement and Lime Company began. It is worth noting that the epoxy resin plant was located outdoor the borough of Wampum in what remained as gigantic Beaver Township.
There were five schools in immense Beaver Township in 1875. There were approximately 266 enrolled students. The average attendance was 170 and the educational term was seven months.
The Place of huge Beaver Township suffered enlargement and loss beyond the next seventy five years. Two world wars and several depressions proverb the population and industry decline. The Borough of Wampum, in search of a larger tax base, decided to annex the Medusa Cement Plant from Big Beaver Township. At that time, according to Pennsylvania come clean law, a township could not prevent a borough from annexing property and Wampum succeeded in annexing the property into Wampum. Shortly after this, the Borough of Ellwood began to announce annexing the property south of the bonding agent plant. In 1958, the township trustees began the process of changing immense Beaver Township into the Borough of New Beaver in order to prevent the other annexation. The charter was signed on November 18, 1959, however the community continued to perform as a township until elections could be held in 1961.
