Many names were proposed for the supplementary town. Initially, the railroad wanted to herald it Morris, then distorted to McLish. Finally, the name Milburn was agreed on in August, 1901.

By 1904, Milburn had satisfactory population to incorporate as a Chickasaw town. After Oklahoma became a own up in 1907, an election was held to pick the additional Johnston County seat. Milburn in limbo to Tishomingo.
