Kitty Hawk is a town in Dare County, North Carolina, on Bodie Island, part of what is known as the state’s Outer Banks. The population was 3,708 at the 2020 United States Census. It was acknowledged in the in advance 18th century as Chickahawk.

The herald Kitty Hawk is derived from the native Algonquin Amerindian language word Chickahawk, meaning “a place to hunt geese”.

Kitty Hawk became world-famous after the Wright brothers made the first controlled powered airplane flights at slay Devil Hills, four miles (6 km) south of the town, on December 17, 1903.
