East Rockingham is a census-designated place (CDP) in Richmond County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 3,885 at the 2000 census.
East Rockingham is located at 34°54′58″N 79°45′51″W / 34.91611°N 79.76417°W (34.916063, -79.764259).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.5 square miles (9.1 km), of which 3.4 square miles (8.9 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km) (0.58%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 3,885 people, 1,562 households, and 1,071 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,132.9 people per square mile (437.3/km2). There were 1,752 housing units at an average density of 510.9/sq mi (197.2/km). The racial makeup of the CDP was 82.03% White, 11.94% African American, 1.80% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 2.01% from new races, and 1.42% from two or more races.
