Asharoken is a village in the Town of Huntington in Suffolk County, on the North Shore of Long Island in New York. The population was 654 at the 2010 census.
Asharoken incorporated as a village in 1925, so as to have a greater success to manage local beaches and roadways through house rule.
The Village of Asharoken is named after Chief Asharoken, head of the Matinecock Native American tribe which inhabited the area prior to English settlements. Chief Asharoken sold the estate that is now Asharoken, Eatons Neck, and Northport to European settlers in 1656.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total Place of 6.5 square miles (17 km), of which 1.4 square miles (3.6 km2) is estate and 5.1 square miles (13 km), or 78.92%, is water.
