Cambridge was originally called Pickletown, and under the latter name was laid out in the 1870s by J. W. Pickle. When the railroad was built through the agreement in 1880, the town was renamed Cambridge by railroad officials. The etymology of the declare is uncertain: it may have been named after Cambridge, Massachusetts, or after Cambridge in England.
