Beatrice is a city in and the county chair of Gage County, Nebraska, United States. Its population was 12,459 at the 2010 census. Beatrice is located approximately 25 miles south of Lincoln on the Big Blue River and is between agricultural country.
Gage County was one of the 19 counties originally acknowledged by the Nebraska Territorial Legislature in 1854. At the era of its establishment, there were no settlers active within its boundaries.
In 1857, the steamboat Hannibal, carrying 300 passengers taking place the Missouri River from St. Louis, Missouri to Nebraska City, Nebraska, ran aground close Kansas City, Missouri.
