Mount Vernon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Somerset County, Maryland, United States. The population was 761 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Mount Vernon is located at 38°14′58″N 75°47′51″W / 38.24944°N 75.79750°W (38.249456, −75.797422).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 15.9 square miles (41 km), of which 13.1 square miles (34 km2) is land and 2.8 square miles (7.3 km) (17.59%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 761 people, 311 households, and 227 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 58.0 inhabitants per square mile (22.4/km2). There were 402 housing units at an average density of 30.6 per square mile (11.8/km). The racial makeup of the CDP was 75.69% White, 23.26% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.13% Asian, and 0.53% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.79% of the population.
