Bloomington is a city in and the county chair of Monroe County in the central region of the U.S. state of Indiana. It is the seventh-largest city in Indiana and the fourth-largest uncovered the Indianapolis metropolitan area. According to the Monroe County History Center, Bloomington is known as the “Gateway to Scenic Southern Indiana”. Most of the campus buildings are built of Indiana limestone.
Bloomington has been designated a Tree City past 1984. The city was plus the location of the Academy Award–winning 1979 movie Breaking Away, featuring a reenactment of Indiana University’s annual Little 500 bicycle race.
