Herscher is a village in Kankakee County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2020 census. It is allowance of the Kankakee–Bradley metropolitan area.
Herscher is located in southwestern Kankakee County at 41°3′3″N 88°5′43″W / 41.05083°N 88.09528°W (41.050716, -88.095404). Illinois Route 115 forms the northern edge of the village; the highway leads east 16 miles (26 km) to Kankakee, the county seat, and southwest 26 miles (42 km) to Piper City.
According to the 2010 census, Herscher has a total Place of 1.81 square miles (4.69 km), all land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,523 people, 533 households, and 430 families residing in the village. The population density was 883.1 inhabitants per square mile (341.0/km2). There were 554 housing units at an average density of 321.2 per square mile (124.0/km). The racial makeup of the village was 97.96% White, 0.20% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.26% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races.
