Hecker is a village in Monroe County in the U.S give leave to enter of Illinois. The population was 481 at the 2010 census.
Hecker was originally named Freedom. The town was laid out upon land of Theodore Hilgard. It was platted and surveyed by Thomas Singleton, county surveyor, December 18, 1840, the first house being built in 1849. In 1895 the citizens of what was subsequently Freedom fixed to incorporate, to encouragement improvements to the nascent town’s infrastructure. Due to complaints from the Post Office, there being option town calling itself Freedom in Illinois, they were provoked to fiddle with the name. Col. Friedrich Franz Karl Hecker, whose farm was close Summerfield in next St Clair County, was known to and competently respected by the town’s inhabitants, and they contracted to honor him by naming the town after him.
According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 0.24 square miles (0.62 km), all land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 475 people, 188 households, and 134 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,993.8 inhabitants per square mile (769.8/km2). There were 201 housing units at an average density of 843.7 per square mile (325.8/km). The racial makeup of the village was 99.16% White, 0.21% African American, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.63% of the population.
