Chapin was named for its founders, Charles and Horace Chapin.
According to the 2010 census, Chapin has a total area of 0.97 square miles (2.51 km), all land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 592 people, 227 households, and 168 families residing in the village. The population density was 607.1 inhabitants per square mile (234.4/km2).
