Aviston is a village in Clinton County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,340 at the 2020 census, up from 1,945 at the 2010 census.
Aviston is located in western Clinton County at 38°36′33″N 89°36′23″W / 38.609177°N 89.606293°W. U.S. Route 50 bypasses the village to the north, leading east 14 miles (23 km) to Carlyle, the county seat, and west 16 miles (26 km) to Interstate 64 near O’Fallon. Downtown St. Louis is 35 miles (56 km) west of Aviston.
According to the 2021 census gazetteer files, Aviston has a total area of 1.60 square miles (4.14 km), all land.
As of the 2020 census there were 2,340 people, 739 households, and 515 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,462.50 inhabitants per square mile (564.67/km2). There were 863 housing units at an average density of 539.38 per square mile (208.26/km). The racial makeup of the village was 94.36% White, 0.34% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from additional races, and 3.55% from two or more races.
