Laurel is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,171 at the 2010 census.
Laurel is portion of the North Port–Sarasota–Bradenton Metropolitan Statistical Area.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.1 square miles (15.8 km), of which 5.1 square miles (13.2 km2) is land and 0.97 square miles (2.5 km), or 16.13%, is water.
As of the 2000 US Census, there were 8,393 people, 4,179 households, and 2,670 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,609.5 inhabitants per square mile (621.4/km2). There were 5,047 housing units at an average density of 967.9 per square mile (373.7/km). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.73% White, 1.97% African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.76% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from extra races, and 0.93% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.29% of the population.
