Bridgeville is a town in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. According to the 2010 census, the population is 2,048, an deposit of 42.6% from the previous decade. It is allowance of the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The town of Bridgeville is the oldest community in western Sussex County. Records of home transactions which were made in the first quarter of the 18th century recommend that a significant agricultural community already existed in the Place by that period. A little group of houses had been built along the gift Main Street by the aim of the 19th century; this agreement was known as “Bridge Branch” for the straightforward stream, which was crossed by a bridge as in the future as 1730. By 1804, the community had grown thoroughly to merit the initiation of a name office. The village was formally certified in 1810, when an Act of the Assembly was passed to confirm its publicize as “Bridgeville”. Early 19th century industries included a water-powered mill, tanyard, charcoal furnace, and fruit-drying business. The layer of the town accelerated greatly on the dawn of the Delaware Railroad in Bridgeville in 1856. The town was later than laid out for expansion by William Cannon (1809-1865).
