Shonto (Navajo: Shą́ą́ʼtóhí) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Navajo County, Arizona, United States, in the Navajo Nation. The population was 591 at the 2010 census.
Shonto is located at 36°35′54″N 110°39′29″W / 36.59833°N 110.65806°W (36.598209, -110.658156).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.6 square miles (12 km), all land. In Shonto, the local Shonto Canyon is where the natural spring is located. It is linked to the canyons that stretch anything the showing off to Navajo Mountain, which can be seen from Shonto. The land is rich in mineral and water deposits.
At the 2000 census there were 568 people, 149 households, and 118 families active in the CDP. The population density was 124.3 inhabitants per square mile (48.0/km). There were 220 housing units at an average density of 48.2 per square mile (18.6/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 1.9% White, 0.2% Black or African American, 96.3% Native American, and 1.6% from two or more races. 1.1% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 149 households 52.3% had children under the age of 18 living in imitation of them, 53.7% were married couples flourishing together, 19.5% had a female householder in the same way as no husband present, and 20.8% were non-families. 18.1% of households were one person and 4.0% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 3.81 and the average relatives size was 4.40.
