Roanoke is a city in Randolph County, which is in the Piedmont region of eastern Alabama, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 5,311, down from 6,074 in 2010 and 6,563 in 2000.
Roanoke was occupied by the Creek back treaties to convince the Native Americans to cede their land, followed by forced migration below the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The area was portion of a broad part of upland developed as cotton plantations worked by enslaved African Americans. The Place is nevertheless quite rural.
