Gulfport is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States, bordering St. Petersburg, South Pasadena, and Boca Ciega Bay. The population of Gulfport was 12,029 at the 2010 census. Gulfport is allowance of the Tampa–St. Petersburg–Clearwater metropolitan statistical area.
Archaeological digs not in the distance off from Boca Ciega Bay indicate that settlements existed in the Place circa 3000 to 8000 BC. The area was as well as densely populated during the Safety Harbor period. In 1528, the Spanish traveler Pánfilo de Narváez landed on the Pinellas peninsula, some say close present-day Gulfport, where he encountered the local Timucuan peoples.
Gulfport has been known by several names in the past its founding. The first settler in what would become Gulfport were James and Rebecca Barnett in 1868 and named the Place Barnett’s Bluff. As new settlers trickled in and homesteaded the area, the concurrence became known as Bonifacio in savings account to 1880. In 1884 Philadelphia financier Hamilton Disston envisioned a thriving port town that he called Disston City. However, the United States Postal Service would not agree to the declare as it conflicted taking into account a town in Hillsborough County, and the declare Bonifacio was retained.
