Middlesex is a town in Nash County, North Carolina, United States. It is share of the Rocky Mount, North Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. Middlesex is very nearly 25 miles east of Raleigh, North Carolina. The population was 822 at the 2010 census.
Taylor’s Mill was listed upon the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km), all land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 838 people, 381 households, and 235 families residing in the town. The population density was 858.6 people per square mile (330.2/km2). There were 426 housing units at an average density of 436.5 per square mile (167.8/km). The racial makeup of the town was 63.25% White, 32.70% African American, 0.24% Native American, 3.58% from supplementary races, and 0.24% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.52% of the population.
