Elwood is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Mullica Township in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP’s population was 1,437. At previous censuses, the Place was listed by the U.S. Census Bureau as the Elwood-Magnolia CDP. The Place is served as United States Postal Service ZIP code 08217.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Elwood had a total area of 3.206 square miles (8.304 km), including 3.205 square miles (8.301 km2) of estate and 0.001 square miles (0.002 km) of water (0.03%).
The 2010 United States census counted 1,437 people, 436 households, and 340 families in the CDP. The population density was 448.3 per square mile (173.1/km). There were 477 housing units at an average density of 148.8 per square mile (57.5/km2). The racial makeup was 61.38% (882) White, 13.15% (189) Black or African American, 0.35% (5) Native American, 1.39% (20) Asian, 0.07% (1) Pacific Islander, 18.44% (265) from new races, and 5.22% (75) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 37.93% (545) of the population.
Of the 436 households, 35.8% had children under the age of 18; 54.4% were married couples animated together; 14.4% had a female householder bearing in mind no husband gift and 22.0% were non-families. Of anything households, 15.8% were made up of individuals and 5.7% had someone full of beans alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.14 and the average relations size was 3.50.
