Cottonwood is a city in Idaho County, Idaho. On the Camas Prairie in north central Idaho, the population was 900 at the 2010 census, down from 944 in 2000. It is just west of U.S. Route 95, between Grangeville and Lewiston.

Cottonwood began in 1862 as a series of quirk station shelters for prospectors and mining suppliers upon their artifice south to Florence and Warrens. It was named for the dense growth of trees that formerly lined Cottonwood Creek.

As of the census of 2010, there were 900 people, 363 households, and 240 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,071.4 inhabitants per square mile (413.7/km²). There were 392 housing units at an average density of 466.7 per square mile (180.2/km). The racial makeup of the city was 97.1% White, 0.9% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.4% from new races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.9% of the population.

There were 363 households, of which 31.4% had children under the age of 18 living following them, 52.9% were married couples energetic together, 10.5% had a female householder past no husband present, 2.8% had a male householder later no wife present, and 33.9% were non-families. 28.7% of anything households were made going on of individuals, and 17.1% had someone successful alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3.05.
