South Sarasota is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sarasota County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,950 at the 2010 census. It is ration of the Bradenton–Sarasota–Venice Metropolitan Statistical Area.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km), of which 1.9 square miles (5.0 km2) is land and 0.42 square miles (1.1 km), or 17.41%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 5,314 people, 2,509 households, and 1,487 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,724.2 inhabitants per square mile (1,051.8/km2). There were 2,719 housing units at an average density of 1,393.9 per square mile (538.2/km). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.97% White, 0.40% African American, 0.21% Native American, 1.17% Asian, 1.34% from further races, and 0.92% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.03% of the population.
There were 2,509 households, out of which 20.6% had kids under the age of 18 living as soon as them, 49.3% were married couples living together, 7.3% had a female householder subsequently no husband present, and 40.7% were non-families. 32.8% of whatever households were made taking place of individuals, and 14.1% had someone flourishing alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.12 and the average intimates size was 2.68.
