Pajaro (Spanish: Pájaro, meaning “bird”) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Monterey County, California, United States. It is located upon the south bank of the Pajaro River 5 miles (8 km) northeast of its mouth, at an height of 26 feet (7.9 m). The population was 2,882 at the 2020 census, down from 3,070 in 2010. The hypothetical district is in Santa Cruz County.
Pajaro is located along the northern edge of Monterey County at 36°54′15″N 121°44′55″W / 36.90417°N 121.74861°W. It lies in the Pajaro Valley, with the Pajaro River forming the community’s and the county’s northern boundary. The city of Watsonville is across the river to the northwest, Santa Cruz County.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the Pajaro CDP has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km), all of it land.
The Pajaro make known office operated from 1872 to 1873 and from 1882 to 1888.
